During the last 29th General Assembly of the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS), Dr. Daysi Corrales Diaz was elected as the new President of the Inter-American Center for Social Security Studies (CIESS).
Corrales Diaz will take office as CIESS President on October 1st in order to reinvigorate the spirit of CIESS as a zealous permanent training center for social security officers, experts and workers. Additionally, she will resume her duties in research and knowledge generation.
Dr. Corrales Diaz has held several positions in her home country Costa Rica – she was Minister of Health in the 2011-2014 period, the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social; CCSS) Health Services Development Director, and Strategic Management Consultant for the same institution in the period 2015-2019.
During her tenure as Health Minister, she implemented the Sole Digital Health File (Expediente Digital Unico de Salud; Edus), a successful experience recognized across the continent. It consists of a digital repository of data from all the patients, which are safely stored and exchanged, that can be accessed via several authorized users. Containing retrospective, concurrent and prospective information, it is intended to continuously and efficiently support the healthcare service with quality and completeness.
Edus standardized and made healthcare easier in Costa Rica, in addition to being an effective solution to control the staff’s activities and how inventory is used, helping to streamline healthcare services received the users.
A Social Security and Healthcare Service Management specialist, Dr. Corrales Diaz has more than 30 years of experience in leadership and managerial positions in the social security system in Costa Rica, particularly in the Healthcare and Public Health services.
